Premature Burial

I am on the road
in that zone of light
just turned by Earth
into evening.
Youth's pale blue behind,
age glows ahead, a storm
far off in black - yet
I fold my arms,
mouth drawn back to taste
the end of day
and wait to sink in sand,
to feel animals walk above me.
